Badwell Ash was formed in March 2004 by Stewart Charlesworth and Simon Pettitt, age 16 and 15 years respectively at the time. Initially the music was solely acoustic guitars but it later broadened out to include electric guitars, piano and Caroline (Caz) Adlington on drums. Now without a drummer the band is playing fewer gigs due to individual music commitments - Stewart concentrating on performing solo and Simon on sound/recording engineering. On those occasions when the band does get together it returns to its roots and focuses on playing purely acoustic music.
Gigs played include Cambridge Strawberry Fair Main Stage (Europe’s biggest free festival), Cambridge Corn Exchange, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Secret Garden Party twice (where the band was voted one of the highlights of the Acoustic Tent on Music OMH.com see www.musicomh.com/festivals), Rhythms of the World Festival and the Ealing Jazz Festival twice. Details of all band gigs (past and future) can be found on this site.
PURCHASE THE ALBUM "IN A GIANT'S HAND". The album is for sale through the Badwell Ash shop priced £6, which includes postage and packing, and at gigs. The album is also on iTunes so if you only want to buy individual rather than the full album go to www.apple.com/itunes/store/ search for Badwell Ash, register and then download what you want.

IF YOU ONLY GET TO ONE GIG IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS MAKE SURE IT'S THIS ONE.
RICHARD BISIKER MEMORIAL GIG
THE JUNCTION, CAMBRIDGE - WEDNESDAY 20th DECEMBER 2006
Past music students from Cambridge Regional College are organising a memorial gig for music teacher Richard Bisiker who sadly died earlier this year from cancer. The gig, at The Junction, Cambridge on Wednesday 20th December, will be a tribute to a man who loved music and who was well liked and hugely respected by all his students.
The line-up for the night consists of eight bands, including Mono Effect, Timefall, J-Treole and Badwell Ash. The music will range across genres as diverse as hip-hop, jazz, rock, metal, progressive, indie and blues but each band has in common the fact that most of the members were taught by Richard.
Staff from Cambridge Regional College will also perform on the night together with Richard’s brother, himself a professional musician.
Doors open at 7.00pm and tickets for the event are £4 on the door or £3 in advance through The Junction's web site (www.junction.co.uk). All profits will go to Cancer Research

We'll soon be playing our last gigs in Cambridge and Cambridgeshire for some time due, as we've mentioned previously, to the fact that the three of us are off to college in Brighton on 25th September. Until we know the college programme we won't be arranging any gigs so the ones posted on this site and at www.myspace.com/badwellash are the last ones for a little while. If you want tickets for any of the gigs, particularly the ones at Ramsey, Soham and CB2 in Cambridge then please contact us.

We'll soon be playing our last gigs in Cambridge for some time due to the fact that the three of us are off to college in Brighton on 25th September. We will each be studying music but different courses. We'll be living together and will still play together as Badwell Ash but regular gigging is likely to be in London or south of the River Thames. If you live outside Cambridge check our web site for gig details but if you're in or near Cambridge and you want to catch our last two easily accessible local gigs here are the details:
FRIDAY 28th JULY - THE LOFT @ THE GRADUATE, CHESTERTON ROAD, CAMBRIDGE
£4 entry. Music starts 8.30pm. Over 18s only and bring ID if you look under 18.
This is our last electric gig and we're playing alongside The Screens, General Lee, and This Is My Honesty. We're onstage at 9.00pm and we need to leave soon after our set as we have a big gig in London the following day and we need an early night!
THURSDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER - THE LIVING RO0M @ CB2, NORFOLK STREET, CAMBRIDGE
This is an acoustic gig and it's our last gig in Cambridge for some months. We're really pleased that it's at the acclaimed Living Room which is held in the cellar below CB2 restaurant...and it's air conditioned.
£4 entry and NO AGE RESTRICTIONS so bring the kids. Doors open at 8.00pm and music starts around 8.45pm. We'll be onstage around 10.00pm.
The venue has very limited capacity (max 50 people) and it's wise to either arrive at 8.00pm or reserve tickets through ourselves. Please e mail us if you want tickets.
Details of all our gigs can be found on this site and at www.myspace.com/badwellash and we'll add new gigs as they're booked, but as we don't yet know the college schedule there may be no gigs arranged for a little while...but there again perhaps there will.
OUR ALBUM "IN A GIANT'S HAND" is for sale through at our shop on this site priced £6, which includes postage and packing, or at any of our gigs. We've sold a lot since the launch date on 18th May which is very pleasing.

The 10 track CD we've recorded, titled "In a Giant's Hand", will be available from 18th May. We're having a bit of a party to celebrate the fact that we've finally got round to recording something so if as many people as possible can join us at The Loft @ The Graduate, Chesterton Road, Cambridge from 8.00pm on Thursday 18th May it would make for a good night. Also playing will be London based and signed band 586 and local guys Hoss.

Last time we wrote we said that we were going into the recording studio mid February. Well we’ve been, and for the first time in our 18 months together we’ve done some serious recording and laid down ten songs. Yes, ten. So much for the EP, it’s now more like an album!
We wanted the tracks to be as near our gig sound as possible so we recorded them live and what you hear on the CD is what you’ll hear at a gig, although we do admit to having overdubbed an extra guitar on a couple of tracks. The tracks, eight electric and two acoustic, have now been mixed and mastered and hopefully we’ll soon have them copied and ready for distribution. At least we now have a permanent record of some of our songs as we get older and move on musically, and the music is definitely changing as we do so.
We'd like to publicly thank recording engineers Max and Jason at The Lodge Studio, Northampton for their professionalism, patience and input during the recording session. We couldn't have wished for a better couple of guys and the biggest recommendation we can make is to say that we'll go back when we record again.
We’ll also soon have four acoustic tracks recorded and we intend to release that as an EP. We play as many acoustic gigs as electric these days and we get many requests for CDs so hopefully an acoustic EP should satisfy those people who try to “beat us up” at gigs because we don’t have one.

Well, 2005 has well and truly disappeared and we've been very, very busy gig-wise, in fact far busier than we ever thought it would be and perhaps not as we had planned. We now seem to be getting booked to play as many acoustic gigs as electric sets and as we enjoy both styles it means we're both busy and happy. We played a few Cambridgeshire Festivals during the summer but festival-wise nothing has surpassed Strawberry Fair for the size of the crowd and the sheer exhilaration of playing to such huge numbers of people. Whilst indoors we haven't had a bigger gig than Cambridge Corn Exchange. 1000 people! Loved it.
We've spread our playing wings a bit further afield, certainly playing Edinburgh was a highlight for us. Hertfordshire seems to have become a second home, and we've played Ipswich and Leeds. Leeds three days before Christmas!! God, that was a tiring day, arrived back in Cambridge at 4.30am - don't ask! Sack our manager. We hope to venture afield more often in the coming months and we have long standing offers to play Brighton and Bristol so maybe we'll finally get there.
We're back in the studio mid February so hopefully we'll have an EP of electric tracks out in a couple of months. We have plans to record some acoustic tracks in the coming months as well so let's hope the plans come to fruition.
Some exciting things are in the pipeline for 2006 and hopefully we can build upon the hard work of 2005 and increase the fan base.
